POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR ONE-ON-ONE COACHING SERVICES
MY COACHING PROCESS
I want to assure you that in our work together, I will never pathologize, judge or shame you for anything you are doing, thinking, feeling, or believing about yourself and others. I believe that trauma survivors cope with overwhelming experiences by developing adaptive coping strategies. These strategies may be conscious or unconscious, but are perfectly normal reactions under traumatic circumstances. I will also never judge your trauma, as I believe that every nervous system responds to stressful situations uniquely based on many factors that are outside our control.

Just as all nervous system responses are unique, so too is every client's recovery journey. I will not prescribe any specific course of action. We, as partners/peers, will determine what feels right for you and your body. As such, you will be an active participant in how your recovery plays out. I will be there to support you, provide you with knowledge, validate your experiences, encourage you throughout this journey, and help you find your own path to healing. No two recovery journeys will look the same.

In my coaching practice, my first goal is to help you work on regulating your nervous system by providing it with a felt sense of safety and support. This can be done using multiple methods, and we will decide together which works best for you. Once the nervous system is regulated, we can move into an expansion phase, where we will increase our ability to tolerate stressful situations without feeling overwhelmed. Again, you will always be the ultimate decision-maker regarding how quickly you want to move through the process and which activities/exercises feel best for your nervous system.

I will be offering a somatic program and regular group somatic sessions that you will be able to participate in if you so choose. These sessions will operate under several client agreements to ensure that the group is a safe place for everyone. Group work is very reinforcing, and co-regulation with other group members can assist in expanding and strengthening your nervous system's regulation and right brain development. As always, you are free to decide if this is an environment that is of interest to you or will be helpful to you.

You will have access to the Somatic Journey, which includes:

DISCLOSURES
Zoom is not HIPPA compliant and, therefore, I cannot guarantee, with 100% certainty, that information shared through Zoom will be safe from a data breach.
However, I do keep all client records secured in ways that anyone other than myself does not have access to them.

Anything that you say to me, my notes or any paperwork provided by you or your physician, mental health professional or legal representative (current or past) will be kept confidential. The only time I will break that confidentiality is if I feel you are in danger of harming yourself or another person if you report abuse to someone (see the next paragraph about my being a Mandatory Reporter) or if I receive a legal subpoena to release your records. With that mind, understand that my notes will only indicate what you have told me in a general way (not my impressions, opinions, etc.). If there is a topic you would rather not have included in your notes, please let me know.

As a Certified Trauma Recovery Coachâ„¢, I act as a Mandatory Reporter, as outlined by The International Association of Trauma Recovery Coaching. This means that if I become aware that a minor, disabled person or elderly person is currently being abused, I am mandated to report the abuse to the appropriate governing agency.

As a coach, I have limitations on the things we can work through in your recovery journey. Although I have a background as a psychologist, I am not certified in the USA and cannot provide diagnoses or prescriptive treatment plans. Coaching is a peer-to-peer relationship as opposed to an authority figure/client relationship, and I will be acting strictly in the coaching role during our sessions.

There are also some situations I do not have the expertise or authority to assist you with. If you are in a place where there are risks to your safety – you are suicidal, significantly self-harming, during an active addiction – the Association mandates that I help you find someone who is competent to deal with that particular issue. You do not have to stop seeing me, but we must bring in another professional who has the expertise with whatever safety issue is at hand to help you with those issues. This is called our Escalated Care Protocol. I am always willing to communicate/work with other professionals if you consent to the sharing of information and if they are also willing. I can provide you with additional details if you have questions about this process.

EXPECTATIONS

You can expect me:

  • to be on time for appointments and during our sessions to be 100% focused on our discussions/somatic work
  • to be knowledgeable about trauma, the human nervous system and the biology/recovery of trauma
  • to be your peer and guide during our sessions. I will offer tools and strategies so that you feel confident, knowing you are "on the right path." However, you will always have agency to decide which strategies/tools work best for you.

 My expectations of you:

  • Please come to sessions on time and be willing to work on your recovery journey
  • Please cancel individual coaching sessions at least 24 hours ahead of a session if you want to reschedule.
  • Please dedicate your focus during our coaching time on your recovery work as much as possible for the entirety of our session
  • Please let me know if you feel triggered during a session

Please be respectful of all other group members during group sessions and on social media.

  • Please be open and honest with me. This will enable our work to be as beneficial as possible. Our relationship is a safe place where you will receive no judgment from me. Providing feedback if my language (verbal or nonverbal) or mannerisms are triggering or uncomfortable is welcome. This will enable me to adapt so that you feel safer, and our work can progress easier. Every nervous system is different, and it is encouraged that you guide me to communicate with yours in its preferred manner.
